MEN'S HAIR LOSS: CAUSES AND SOLUTIONS
40 million men experience hair loss in America alone.
By the age of 50, approximately 85% of men have some type of baldness or hair loss.
Nearly 60% of all men have the chance of inheriting the balding gene.
Why am I going bald or losing my hair? – Male Pattern Baldness
Male hair loss is usually caused by genetics (Androgenetic Alopecia or Male Pattern Baldness) and more specifically, the conversion of the male hormone testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone – DHT. DHT decreases blood flow to the hair follicle causing the hair strands to progressively “miniaturize”, meaning the hair becomes thinner and thinner. Over time, the follicles can become dormant, or no longer productive, and no hair will grow from the follicle.
Male-pattern hair loss can result in a receding hair line and/or bald patches, mainly on the top and crown of the scalp. As men age, their hairline matures and for some men this is the beginning stages of Male Pattern Baldness. According to the Norwood Scale, a man’s hair loss can progress in 7 different stages, with the first stage starting as early as 16 years of age.

What can I do to stop my hair from getting worse?
Prevention:
Medication – Prescription medications are available, like Propecia and Finasteride (generic), to fight genetic hair loss. They work by blocking the conversion of DHT, essentially stopping the hair loss majority of the time. Propecia and/or Finasteride can have a less than 5% chance of unwanted side effects.
Low-level laser therapy (Laser Therapy) – Laser Therapy is the first completely holistic approach in stabilizing the hair loss. FDA Cleared in 2015, it is proven to be safe (no side effects) and effective in stopping genetic alopecia and stimulating regrowth in miniaturized hair. Minoxidil or Rogaine – Topically applied and is available without a prescription.
Can I get my hair back?
Non-surgical hair replacement – All men are candidates for this solution. These solutions are pain-free and can re-create any hairline or full head of hair. For more information on non-surgical hair restoration, click here.

Other Secondary Causes of Hair Loss in Men:
- Testosterone Replacement and Steroids
- Alopecia Areata and Other Types: Classified as an autoimmune disorder, alopecia areata causes the body’s own immune system to attack healthy hair follicles.
- Medicine – Stress and Shock – Diet and Poor Nutrition – Diseases, Illness and Infections – these are not typical causes of hair loss in men, but may sometimes occur.
