The winter months are upon us and it’s important to protect your hair from the damage that the winter weather can cause. Here are some tips to help protect and keep your hair healthy this winter season…
One very simple tip is to cover your hair from the wind, rain and snow. A hat or beanie can work for men, but most women don’t want the dreaded “hat hair”. A way to avoid this is to wrap your hair in a silk scarf before putting on your beanie. This helps protect from the rubbing against your hair a hat can cause and it also cuts down on the static if you wear a beanie.
In order to have healthy strands, your hair has to have enough moisture. During the winter months this can be depleted from dry heat in some homes and the cold winter air. It’s good to treat your hair once a week to a deep protein or conditioning treatment. This will help to replenish the moisture. I would recommend our “Fortified Protein Conditioner” from our Welker rePhreshed product line. It can be used regularly or as a deep conditioning treatment when left on for 20-30 minutes, and applying a little heat once a week. (Go to store.welkerrephreshed.com for more info.)
Don’t leave the house with wet hair… The moisture in your hair mixed with the cold air can damage your hair by making it more brittle and dry, and can cause breakage.
Regular trims are always good to keep your hair in good health during the winter months as well. Every 6-8 weeks is recommended, just a little trim off the ends will help reduce the chance of dry, splitting ends.
Avoid taking hot showers or washing your hair in hot water. Too much heat can dry out and/or damage your hair and skin. A humidifier can help by adding moisture to the air.
